Xavier University To Host College, Club Hockey Tournament at Cincinnati Gardens

The Xavier University Men’s Club Ice Hockey team has announced

that they will host the North-South Showdown, a six-team tournament

on Friday, September 27 through Sunday, September 29

at the Cincinnati Gardens. 




In addition to the Musketeers, club teams from Oakland University (Detroit, MI), Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), Missouri State University, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) will participate.  The championship game will be staged on Sunday, September 29 at 12:30 p.m. at the Cincinnati Gardens.

The tournament will be a pool-style format, with two divisions.  The two teams with the best record in its division after pool play, will advance to play in the championship game. 

The Musketeers are coached by Tim Driscoll, who will be entering his fourth season at the helm of the Xavier Club Ice Hockey program, which is in its eighth year of existence.  Xavier plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).  Driscoll is excited to showcase not only his team, but the entire tournament field saying, “This is a premier collegiate ice hockey tournament at the ACHA level.  Each team is nationally ranked, with a legitimate chance at playing for a national championship.”  Driscoll also added, “This tournament is a great chance to bring exposure to this level of collegiate ice hockey.” 

Xavier is returning its entire roster from last season, as Driscoll did not lose any players to graduation.  The Musketeers finished last season at 23-5 and are led by junior forward Pat Riedy from Detroit, MI.  Reidy led the nation is scoring each of the last two seasons at the ACHA, Division III level, posting 53 goals and 35 assists last season. 

Xavier will play three games in the pool round: Friday vs. Oakland University at 8 p.m. and two games on Saturday vs. UNC Charlotte at 9 a.m. and Ole Miss at 4 p.m.  The entire tournament schedule is listed below.

Saturday, September 28


9-11:30 a.m.      Xavier vs. Charlotte

11:30-2 p.m.      Oakland vs. Ole Miss

2-4:30 p.m.        IPFW vs. Missouri St.

4:30-7 p.m.        Xavier vs. Ole Miss

7-9:30 p.m.        IPFW vs. Charlotte

9:30-12 a.m.      Oakland vs. Missouri St.


Sunday, September 29

12-2:30 p.m.      Championship
