Rollergirls Wrap Up 2009 Home Season Tonight

Roller derby fans have only one more chance to see the Cincinnati Rollergirls at the Cincinnati Gardens this season.  Cincinnati will take on Columbus's Ohio Roller Girls, tonight, Saturday, June 20 at 7 p.m., in the first public match-up between the two Ohio teams at the Gardens.




The event is another double-header bout, featuring both Cincinnati and Ohio's A and B (varsity and junior varsity) teams. The first bout will feature Cincinnati's B team, the Silent Lambs, who will oppose Ohio's Gang Green. In the main event immediately following, Cincinnati's Black Sheep - currently ranked 4th in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association's North Central region with a 4-1 record this season - will battle Ohio's all-stars, who are currently ranked 13th in the region with a 3-2 record.

Adult tickets are just $10 and kid's tickets are just $5.  All tickets are available at the Cincinnati Gardens Box Office, at all Ticketmaster Outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 800-745-3000 or online at  Special one-dollar happy-hour prices on 12-ounce cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon will be available from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  Parking is free at Cincinnati Gardens for all 2009 Cincinnati Rollergirls events.




But June 20 isn't the last opportunity that fans will have to see the Cincinnati Rollergirls if they're willing to travel to cheer them on. Just one week after the June 20 bout, Cincinnati will kick off an ambitious travel season with an event in Philadelphia featuring more than 80 roller derby leagues. The road schedule will also include Cincinnati's first bout on a banked track as well as the first trip outside the U.S. border.  Here is the complete schedule:

June 27-28 Black Sheep vs. Windy City Rollers and Atlanta Rollergirls at the East Coast Derby Extravaganza in Philadelphia, PA.

July 18 Silent Lambs vs. Hammer City Roller Girls in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (Cincinnati's first international bout)

August 8 Cincinnati Rollergirls scrimmage against other Ohio teams at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus

August 22 Black Sheep and Silent Lambs vs. Steel City Derby Demons in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sept. 6 Black Sheep vs. Arch Rival Roller Girls All-Stars in St. Louis, MO.

Sept. 18-20 Black Sheep vs. TBD at Women's Flat Track Derby Association North Central Regional Tournament, "Brawl of America," in St. Paul, MN.

Oct. 17-18 Black Sheep vs. San Diego Derby Dolls on the flat and banked track in San Diego, CA.

Nov. 13-15 Pending results of regional tournament, Black Sheep may compete in WFTDA National Tournament, "Declaration of Derby," in Philadelphia, PA.
